P1253 Mitsubishi VTEC System Malfunction

Tech description
If the P1253 Mitsubishi is present, start by checking the engine oil level and condition. Change engine oil and filter if necessary with factory recommended oil weight.
Symptoms
– Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
P1253 Mitsubishi Description
The VTEC system, in conjuction with the engine control module (ECM)/powertrain control module (PCM), activates the VTEC solenoid valve to control oil pressure to the VTEC mechanism that is installed in the valve system to switch valve timing between Low and High.
If the VTEC solenoid valve has an open or short circuit, a DTC is stored.
