How to Reset Cadillac Car Diagnostic Trouble Codes (OBD-II)?

You can reset the trouble codes on your Cadillac right from your home garage, saving yourself a trip back to the mechanic or dealership. The Cadillac’s computer creates and stores information about its various systems. It alerts you to any malfunctions or servicing needs via warning and service lights on the instrument panel. Once you have had the vehicle serviced or repaired, you or your mechanic can reset the trouble codes using a handheld computerized device called an OBD-ii scan tool. The tools are available at most auto parts stores.

You’ll Need

  • OBD-ii scan tool
  • Ignition key

Step:

    • Locate the diagnostic port under the driver’s side dash. Plug the OBD scan tool into the port.
    • Put the key into the ignition and turn it to the “on” position, but don’t start the engine. Wait while the scan tool reads the trouble codes.
    • Find a command on the scan tool that says “Delete Codes” or something similar. Select this command and wait for it to finish. It will say something like “Command Sent” or return to the main menu.
    • Unplug the scan tool from the port and turn on the engine. Check to make sure all warning lights and service lights have shut off.

Note:

  • Most auto parts stores will loan you their scan tool for free so you can read and clear the codes.
