P0299 Turbocharger under boost
DETECTION CONDITION
•  The PCM monitors the actual duty value to the boost pressure control solenoid valve. If the actual value is higher than threshold based on target duty value, the PCM determines that the turbocharger is under boost condition.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
•  Air leakage from intake-air system (between turbocharger and intake manifold)
•  Boost sensor characteristic malfunction
•  EVR actuator stuck
•  EVR solenoid valve stuck close
•  Poor connection or damaged vacuum hose at EVR solenoid valve
•  Turbocharger malfunction
•  Charge air cooler damaged
•  PCM malfunction

Diagnostic procedure

STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1
VERIFY FREEZE FRAME DATA HAS BEEN RECORDED
•  Has the FREEZE FRAME DATA been recorded?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Record the FREEZE FRAME DATA on the repair order, then go to the next step.
2
VERIFY REPAIR INFORMATION AVAILABILITY
•  Verify related service repair information availability.
•  Is any related repair information available?
Yes
Perform repair or diagnosis according to the available repair information.
If the vehicle is not repaired, go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
3
IDENTIFY TRIGGER DTC FOR FREEZE FRAME DATA
•  Is DTC P0239 on FREEZE FRAME DATA?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to troubleshooting procedure for DTC on FREEZE FRAME DATA.

INSPECT AIR LEAKAGE FOR INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM
•  Inspect the intake-air system for leakage between turbocharger and intake manifold.
•  Is there any air leakage?
Yes
Repair or replace malfunctioning part, then go to Step 10.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT VACUUM HOSE
•  Inspect for connection and damaged at the EVR solenoid valve vacuum hose.
•  Is the vacuum hose normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or connect to properly for the vacuum hose, then go to Step 10.

INSPECT EVR SOLENOID VALVE STUCK CLOSE
•  Inspect the EVR solenoid valve.
•  Is the EVR solenoid valve stuck close?
Yes
Replace EVR solenoid valve, then go to Step 10.
No
Go to the next step.
7
INSPECT EVR ACTUATOR FOR STUCK
•  Inspect the EVR actuator.
•  Is the EVR actuator stuck open?
Yes
Replace the turbocharger, then go to Step 10.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT BOOST SENSOR
•  Inspect the boost sensor.
•  Is the boost sensor normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the boost sensor, then go to Step 10.

INSPECT TURBOCHARGER
•  Inspect the turbocharger.
•  Is the turbocharger normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the turbocharger, then go to the next step.
10
VERIFY THAT DTC P0299 TROUBLESHOOTING IS COMPLETED
•  Make sure to reconnect all disconnected connectors.
•  Clear the DTC from the PCM memory using the M-MDS.
•  Start the engine and warm-up to normal operating temperature.
•  Run the vehicle under the FREEZE FRAME DATA stored condition.
•  Retrieve the DTC using the M-MDS.
•  Is the PENDING CODE same DTC present?
Yes
Replace PCM, then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
11
VERIFY AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE
•  Perform “After Repair Procedure”.
•  Is there any DTC present?
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC inspection.
No
Troubleshooting completed.
