Mazda Factory OBD-II DTC P1639 Code Diagnostic Procedure

Mazda P1639 Vehicle identification block corrupted or not programmed
DETECTION CONDITION
•  Vehicle identification block not programmed – program vehicle identification block
•  Vehicle identification checksum error – re-program vehicle identification
POSSIBLE CAUSE
•  No configuration data in the PCM.
•  PCM internal EEPROM is damaged.

Diagnostic procedure

STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1
VERIFY RELATED REPAIR INFORMATION AVAILABILITY
•  Verify related service bulletins and/or on-line repair information availability.
•  Is any repair information available?
Yes
Perform repair or diagnosis according to the available repair information.
•  If vehicle is not repaired, go to the next step.
No
Perform the “PCM CONFIGURATION”, then go to the next step.

VERIFY DTC P1639 DETECTED AGAIN
•  Clear the DTC from the memory using the M-MDS.
•  Run the vehicle under the FREEZE FRAME DATA stored condition.
•  Is the same DTC present?
Yes
Replace the PCM, then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.

VERIFY AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE
•  Perform the after repair procedure.
•  Are any DTCs present?
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC inspection.
No
DTC troubleshooting completed.
