Some 2020 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with a 6.7L diesel engine may exhibit a no crank concern with an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) due to low fuel level or low fuel pressure. The most common diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) associated with a low fuel pressure concern are P0087 and P008A. Prior to performing Powertrain Controls and Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Section diagnostics for a no crank concern, verify the vehicle is not out of fuel or has a low fuel pressure concern. The no crank symptom after a low fuel pressure event is new for the 2020 model year.

Some 2017-2020 F-Super-Duty vehicles equipped with a 6.7L diesel engine may exhibit hard start, lack of power or runs rough concern with malfunction indicator light (MIL) and diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0087 and/or P008A. This may be due to low fuel level or fuel gelling in cold ambient temperatures. If no root cause is determined after normal PCED diagnostic test MA recommend that customer use a different brand of fuel and Motorcraft PM-23-A Diesel Fuel Anti-Gel and Performance Improver. Inform the customer that Bio Diesel blended fuels have a higher occurrence of fuel gelling. Fuel gelling and or low fuel conditions causing a P0087 and/or P008A is not covered under warranty.

Some 2017-2020 Model year vehicles equipped with 3.3L, 3.5L EcoBoost, or 5.0L engines may exhibit stalling, lack of power, low fuel rail pressure and/or DTCs P0087 or P008A after a repair was made that required the removal of the fuel line that connects the high-pressure fuel pump to the port injection rail, such as injector replacements or base engine repairs. This line must be installed in the correct orientation as it has an internal one-way check valve. To determine if the fuel line has been installed improperly, look at the position of the Oetiker clamp (stainless band clamped around the black fuel line). Some 2013-2015 Fusion/MKZ/Escape/MKC with a 1.6L GTDI, 1.5L GTDI, or 2.0L GTDI may exhibit a lack of power, loss of power, or stall when placed in gear with DTCs P00C6, P0087, P008A, P008B, P018C, or P018D. If normal diagnosis leads to a biased or failed Fuel Low Pressure (FLP) sensor, the sensor is available without the need to order the entire fuel line assembly. The FLP sensor, located on the fuel supply line to the high pressure pump, provides the low side fuel pressure input to the PCM so the Fuel Driver Module can be controlled accordingly. The FLP PID can be viewed in the Datalogger and then compared to a manual pressure gauge per pinpoint test HC in the PCED to validate the sensor is working properly. The Fusion/MKZ catalog has been updated to show the sensor availability.
