DTC C1116 AND/OR C1142 STORED IN THE ABS CONTROL MODULE IF YOU CONFIRM Customer states the ABS warning light is ON and “System fault See Owner’s Manual” appears in the message center (Figure 1), AND DTCs C1116 (Stop Lamp Switch) and/or C1142 (Press Sen Circuit) are stored in the ABS Control Module. ACTION Follow the SERVICE PROCEDURE in this bulletin to: 1. Install the Center High Mount Stop Lamp (CHMSL) Relay and Jumper Harness. 2. Install a new Stop Lamp Switch. 3. Reprogram the ABS Control Module. IMPORTANT: The purpose of ACTION (above) is to give you a quick idea of the work you will be performing. You MUST closely follow the entire SERVICE PROCEDURE as it contains information that is essential to successfully completing this repair.

Before replacing any components for DTCs C1142 (PRESS SEN CIRCUIT) and/or C1116 (STOP LAMP SW), stored as past or current, confirm that the Stop Lamp Switch and the Brake Pedal Position Switch are properly adjusted. IF YOU CONFIRM A current or past customer concern of the Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) warning light being ON with either a current or past DTC C1116 (STOP LAMP SW) stored. And Brake lamp switch operation has been confirmed as operating correctly. ACTION Install the harness jumper from the Parts Information using the Service Procedure starting on page 2.

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician for a service trailer brake message on in the vehicle. The technician will find diagnostic trouble codes C1115, C1116, C1117, or C1118. In most cases the chassis control module is not the cause of the trouble codes. The technician should inspect the wiring between the chassis control module and the trailer brake control switch. The inline connectors X185 or X138 as well as the connectors X1 and X5 of the X61A junction block should be thoroughly inspected looking for backed out, loose, poor retention or any other terminal issues. If there are no wiring concerns are found the trailer brake control switch is most likely the cause.
