Electronic Shift Module Customer is unable to shift the vehicle out of PARK - ESM (Electronic Shift Module) rotary knob is stuck in PARK position. Technician observes the vehicle is setting DTCs in the ESM, P0928-00 (ESM detects an internal error with the BTSI Solenoid) and P0705 (ESM controller detects an error with the internal shifter position sensor). Vehicles equipped with one of the following ESM part numbers (68171964AI, 68171965AK, 68517473AA, 68517474AA) with stored or active DTCs listed above should receive replacement shifter part numbers, 68517473AB (without transfer case switch) or 68517474AB (with transfer case switch).

Electronic Shifter Operation This bulletin involves Inspecting and replacing the Electronic Shifter (E-shifter) if required. Customer may experience the E-shifter will not shift out of park or the customer may be able to turn the E-shifter knob without the brakes being depressed. The shift indicator and cluster will show a flashing D and the cluster will display a message to put the shifter back to the park position. The Transmission will NOT shift out of park, when the brake pedal is not depressed. On further inspection the technician may find DTC P0928-00 BTSI Control.

This condition can be corrected by turning off the vehicle and allowing all of the modules to go to sleep. Once the modules have gone through a key cycle the DTC will go from active to stored and then the vehicle can be shifted out of park. On further inspection DTCs P0607-00-ECU INTERNAL PERFORMANCE and P0928-00-BTSI CONTROL may be found active or stored.
