Some 2023-2024 Bronco Sport vehicles equipped with a 1.5L engine may exhibit an illuminated powertrain malfunction (wrench) indicator with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P130D stored in the PCM. This may be caused by poor quality fuel being used in the vehicle. As stated in the Owner's Manual under FUEL QUALITY - Choosing the Right Fuel, use of any fuel for which the vehicle was not designed can impair the emission control system, cause loss of vehicle performance, and cause damage to the engine. Do not use: diesel fuel, fuels containing kerosene or paraffin, fuel containing more than 15% ethanol or E85 fuel, fuels containing methanol, fuels containing metallic-based additives, including manganese-based compound, fuels containing the octane booster additive, methylcyclopentadienyl…

Some 2023-2024 Bronco Sport vehicles equipped with a 1.5L engine may exhibit an illuminated powertrain malfunction (wrench) indicator with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P130D stored in the PCM. Engineering is aware of this condition and is currently working on a solution that is expected in late Q2 of 2026. If a vehicle comes in for this condition, submit a Global Concern Report (GCR) and monitor Professional Technician System (PTS) for additional information and schedule service appointments for customers once the repair becomes available.

Some 2020-2021 Escape and 2021 Bronco Sport vehicles equipped with a 1.5L EcoBoost engine may experience a lack of power, excessive spark knock and an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) and/or a powertrain malfunction (wrench) indicator with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P130D stored in the powertrain control module (PCM). This concern typically occurs under moderate to high load conditions at highway speeds. This may be due to a loose ground at G109 or G107. To correct this condition, inspect G109 for the ground eyelet being installed upside down/loose/corrosion and G107 ignition coil ground. The eyelet on G109 has a tab that should be facing down to stop rotation during tightening.

Some 2020 Explorer/Aviator vehicles equipped with a 2.3L/3.0L EcoBoost engine may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) and/or Engine Coolant Over Temperature warning with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0116, P0117, P0118, P0119, P0128, P0217, P0330, P1026, P1299, and/or P130D. This may be due to the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor or ECT sensor wiring harness. For 2.3L vehicles, replace the ECT sensor and pigtail wiring connector (GU2Z-14S411-KA). For 3.0L vehicles, replace the ECT and knock sensor. To aid with the engineering investigation, do not disconnect the wiring connector from the ECT sensor during disassembly. Leave the connector on the sensor in case parts are called back for analysis.
