Some 2020-2022 Escape plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) and 2021-2022 Corsair PHEV vehicles built on or before 3-Mar-2022 may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) and/or engine coolant over temperature warning message with Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P2183 stored in the powertrain control module (PCM). DTC P26C1 may also be present due to DTC P2183 setting. This condition occurs when the vehicle is driven with the cabin coolant heater active and after an engine long soak the DTC P2183 will incorrectly set at next key on. This may be due to the soak timer feature in the PCM that miscalculates the heater off soak timer. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure to reprogram various modules starting with the PCM.

Some 2021 Escape/Corsair 2.5L PHEV vehicles may exhibit an illuminated MIL with DTCs P2183 and/or P26C1 present. The vehicle may also exhibit an engine overheat message in the instrument panel cluster. Engineering is aware of this concern and is working on a solution. Continue with checking the engine coolant level, inspect the cabin heater coolant temperature sensor (ECT sensor 2) connector for contamination and perform Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 412-00 pinpoint test AQ. If no concern is found and the vehicle does not exhibit DTC P1285 or P1299, clear the DTCs. If DTCs P1285 or P1299 are present, perform normal WSM diagnosis and repair. Some 2013-2017 C-Max PHEV may exhibit diagnostic code P2183 and may have the coolant hoses that attach to the lower bulkhead connections incorrectly installed. The two hoses share the same female connectors and mate to matching male tube ends. There are two primary methods for telling which hose is which. The hoses have a marking on the upper surface (when installed) for either inboard (IB) or outboard (OB) orientation. The other method is to observe the braided protective sleeves that are installed on the hoses. The longer, nylon sleeve is on the inboard hose and should be attached to the tube that is closest to the driver's side. The shorter, fabric sleeve in on the outboard hose and should be installed to the tube that is closer to the passenger's side.

This is caused by the ECT sensor No.2 located near the bottom of the radiator getting wet and water entering the part due to insufficient water resistance. To correct this issue, the water resistance of the ECT sensor No.2 has been improved.
