If your 1999-2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee’s ‘Check Engine’ light is on, you can check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) without having an OBD (On Board Diagnostics) II Code Scanner. All you need is your key.
Here’s how to find the Diagnostics Trouble codes (obd-ii):
Steps
-
Start with the key out of the ignition, all doors, the liftgate, the liftgate glass, and the hood closed.
-
Put the key into the ignition. Turn the key 3-4 times from OFF to ON (do NOT turn to RUN to start the vehicle). Leave the ignition in ON after the fourth (4th) time.
-
Look at the odometer. The odometer display will change from the current mileage to say ‘DTC REPORT’. If there are Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) present for your vehicle, they will display starting with a ‘P’ and ending with four (4) numbers. Write down these codes as they show up on the odometer display.
- Once your vehicle is done displaying all Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) or it has no Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) to show, the odometer display will read ‘DONE’.
-
Turn the ignition to OFF and remove the key from the ignition.
-
Search Google for these Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) to see what they mean.
