DTC P0089 Fuel Pressure Regulator Performance
DETECTION CONDITION
•  PCM detects the fuel pressure at the common rail for the following while the engine is running, the PCM determines that the fuel system pressure is not controlled properly.
―  Fuel pressure is excessively high.
―  Fuel pressure is higher than the threshold compared to the target fuel pressure.
―  Fuel pressure is lower than the threshold compared to the target fuel pressure.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
•  Erratic signal the from fuel pressure sensor to PCM
•  Fuel metering control valve or related circuit malfunction
•  Fuel leakage from the fuel injector
•  Fuel leakage or clogging in fuel system
•  Supply pump malfunction
•  Fuel pressure limiter malfunction
•  Improper operation of fuel injection control
•  PCM malfunction

Diagnostic procedure

STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1
VERIFY FREEZE FRAME DATA HAS BEEN RECORDED
•  Has the FREEZE FRAME DATA been recorded?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Record the FREEZE FRAME DATA on the repair order, then go to the next step.
2
VERIFY REPAIR INFORMATION AVAILABILITY
•  Verify related service repair information availability.
•  Is any related repair information available?
Yes
Perform repair or diagnosis according to the available repair information.
If the vehicle is not repaired, go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.

IDENTIFY TRIGGER DTC FOR FREEZE FRAME DATA
•  Is P0191, P0192, P0193, P0201, P0202, P0203 or P0204 on the FREEZE FRAME DATA?
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC inspection.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT FUEL LINE
•  Turn the engine switch off.
•  Inspect for leakage or clogs in the following fuel lines for each cylinder:
―  Supply pump and common rail
―  Common rail and fuel injector
•  Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Repair or replace the suspected fuel line, then go to Step 8.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT FUEL METERING CONTROL VALVE
•  Inspect the fuel metering control valve.
•  Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Replace the supply pump, then go to Step 8.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR
•  Inspect the fuel pressure sensor.
•  Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Replace the common rail, then go to Step 8.
No
Go to the next step.
7
INSPECT FUEL INJECTOR
•  Inspect the fuel injector.
•  Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Replace the fuel injector, then go to the next step.
No
Inspect the following:
•  Supply pump
•  Fuel pressure limit
If there is a malfunction, repair or replace.
Then go to the next step.
If it is normal, go to the next step.

VERIFY THAT DTC P0089 TROUBLESHOOTING IS COMPLETED
•  Make sure to reconnect all disconnected connectors.
•  Clear the DTC from the PCM memory using the M-MDS.
•  Start the engine and warm-up to normal operating temperature.
•  Run the vehicle under the FREEZE FRAME DATA stored condition.
•  Retrieve DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Is the PENDING CODE same DTC present?
Yes
Replace PCM, then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
9
VERIFY AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE
•  Perform “After Repair Procedure”.
•  Is there any DTC present?
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC inspection.
No
Troubleshooting completed.
