Mazda Factory OBD-II DTC P1102 Code Diagnostic Procedure

Mazda P1102 Mass air flow (MAF) sensor in range but lower than expected
DETECTION CONDITION
•  The PCM compares actual input from MAF sensor with expected MAF amount that PCM calculates by engine running condition. If the actual MAF signal is excessive lower than expected value, the PCM determines that the MAF sensor signal is lower than expected.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
•  MAF sensor malfunction
•  Electric corrosion in MAF signal circuit
•  Voltage drops in MAF sensor signal circuit
•  PCM malfunction

Diagnostic procedure

STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1
VERIFY FREEZE FRAME DATA HAS BEEN RECORDED
•  Has the FREEZE FRAME DATA been recorded?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Record the FREEZE FRAME DATA on the repair order, then go to the next step.

VERIFY REPAIR INFORMATION AVAILABILITY
•  Verify related service repair information availability.
•  Is any related repair information available?
Yes
Perform repair or diagnosis according to the available repair information.
If the vehicle is not repaired, go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.

IDENTIFY TRIGGER DTC FOR FREEZE FRAME DATA
•  Is P1102 on FREEZE FRAME DATA?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to troubleshooting procedures for DTC in FREEZE FRAME DATA.

INSPECT POOR CONNECTION OF MAF SENSOR CONNECTOR
•  Turn the engine switch off.
•  Disconnect MAF sensor connector.
•  Check poor connection (damaged, pulled-out terminals, corrosion, etc.).
•  Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Repair or replace suspected terminal or MAF sensor, then go to Step 7.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT MAF SENSOR CONDITION
•  Turn the engine switch off.
•  Remove the MAF sensor.
•  Inspect MAF sensor condition.
•  Are there any contaminations (oil, water, dust, etc.) on MAF sensor?
Yes
Remove contaminates from MAF sensor, then go to Step 7.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT POOR CONNECTION OF PCM CONNECTOR
•  Disconnect PCM sensor connector.
•  Check poor connection (damaged, pulled-out terminals, corrosion, etc.).
•  Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Repair or replace suspected terminal, then go to the next step.
No
Replace the MAF sensor, then go to the next step.
7
VERIFY THAT DTC P1102 TROUBLESHOOTING IS COMPLETED
•  Make sure to reconnect all disconnected connectors.
•  Clear the DTC from the PCM memory using the M-MDS.
•  Start the engine and warm-up to normal operating temperature.
•  Race the engine for several times.
•  Retrieve the DTC using the M-MDS.
•  Is the PENDING CODE same DTC present?
Yes
Replace PCM, then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
8
VERIFY AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE
•  Perform “After Repair Procedure”.
•  Is there any DTC present?
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC inspection.
No
Troubleshooting completed.
