P1382 Mercedes-Benz Variable Cam Timing Solenoid #1 Circuit Malfunction
Possible causes
– Cylinder Position Sensor harness is open or shorted
– Cylinder Position Sensor circuit poor electrical connection
– Faulty Cylinder Position Sensor
– Cylinder Position Sensor circuit poor electrical connection
– Faulty Cylinder Position Sensor
Tech description
The Cylinder Position (CYP) Sensor, Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP) and Top Dead Center (TDC) Sensor are all built into the distributor.
What about the obd code?
If no cylinder position (CYP) sensor pulsing signals are detected, a malfunction is detected and a the P1382 Mercedes-Benz code is stored.
Symptoms
– Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
P1382 Mercedes-Benz Description
The cylinder position (CYP) sensor consists of a rotor and a pick-up coil that detects rotor position. When the rotor turns after starting the engine, the changes of magnetic flux in the pick-up coil are converted into pulsing signals to the engine control module (ECM)/powertrain control module (PCM). The CYP sensor detects the position of the No.1 cylinder for sequential fuel injection.
