Some 2020-2021 Escape vehicles may exhibit various symptoms due to a loss of voltage reference (VREF) from the 14290 harness above the steering shaft u-joint. Possible symptoms may include an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL),runs rough, fuse 44 open and may or may not set DTCs P06A7, P0840, P0842, P0845, P0847, P2122, P2127, P0522, P008A, P06A6, P2196, P0192, P0369, P0212, P0340, P0344, P0365, P0532,P0504, P07E4, P06E9, P0369, C175E, C175B, C2302, and/or C0040. Rotation of the steering wheel will trigger the short circuit. Inspect the harness for damage at that location and repair as necessary. 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2020 Fusion Hybrid/MKZ Hybrid vehicles may exhibit a MIL with Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0340 and/or P0344. This may occur due to excessive moisture build up in the engine oil. Excess moisture occurs when the vehicle is driven short distances and/or less than 6,000 combined miles per year. To correct the condition, replace the camshaft position sensor (CMP) and change the engine oil. Advise the customer to perform more frequent oil changes and allow the internal combustion engine to reach operating temperature when running to prevent reoccurrence. Refer to the owners guide - maintenance - engine oil check - operating in cold climates and short driving cycles.
