Some 2018 F-150, Expedition, and Navigator vehicles may exhibit an illuminated MIL with DTC P0521 stored in powertrain control module (PCM) usually after a crank, no-start event. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-14 for normal diagnostics. If unable to determine root cause, do not attempt any repairs. Engineering is investigating, monitor OASIS for updates.

Some 2016-2017 F-150 vehicles equipped with a 3.5L gasoline turbocharged direct injection (GTDI) or 5.0L engine may experience low or no oil pressure indication on the oil pressure gauge with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0521,P0522, P0523 and/or P0524 stored in the powertrain control module (PCM) memory. This may be due to liquid contamination inside the engine oil pressure sensor connector. If evidence of liquid contamination is found, replace the oil pressure sensor. Inspect the connector seals on C1657 of the 12C508 engine harness for damage and repair as necessary. Do NOT use di-electric grease in the sensor electrical connector. For claiming, use causal part 9D290 and applicable labor operation in section 9 of the service labor time standard (SLTS) manual.

TECHNICIAN MAY ALSO FIND A DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE P0521 IN THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE. TECHNICIAN SHOULD FOLLOW ALL PUBLISHED SERVICE INFORMATION DIAGNOSIS. WHEN USING A SCAN TOOL IF THE OIL PRESSURE IS LOW BUT THE OIL PRESSURE AT THE OIL FILTER HOUSING IS CORRECT, TECHNICIAN SHOULD INSPECT THE VALVE LIFTER OIL FILTER FOR DEBRIS/SLUDGE THAT COULD BE RESTRICTING OIL FLOW TO THE OIL PRESSURE SENSOR. TECHNICIAN SHOULD REMOVE THE VALVE LIFTER OIL FILTER AND CLEAN IT. IF THE VALVE LIFTER OIL FILTER CANNOT BE CLEANED REPLACE IT.

Vehicle may have Service Engine Soon lamp with Diagnostic Trouble Code P0521 or Low Oil Pressure message on the instrument panel. Dealer will need to determine if bulletin 10-06-01-008 was completed. If the bulletin was performed inspect the left rocker cover. Dealer will insure the left rocker can hold water without leaking. If leaks are found apply room temperature vulcanization silicone to the rocker cover if possible or replace the left rocker cover.

When using a scan tool if the oil pressure is low but the oil pressure at the oil filter housing is correct, technician should inspect the Valve Lifter Oil Filter for debris/sludge that could be restricting oil flow to the oil pressure sensor. Technician should remove the Valve Lifter Oil Filter and clean it. If the Valve Lifter Oil Filter cannot be cleaned replace it.
