A customer may complain of misfires or roughness on cold start up with a P0300 diagnostic trouble code. Technician is to add coolant dye to the system and run the engine through warm up to circulate the dye. Pressurize the cooling system after a cold soak and inspect the cylinder with a bore scope for coolant dye. Dye is used to identify coolant over residual fuel being that might be left in the cylinder. The technician is not to replace the cylinder head as it will not correct this concern. Some 2016-2017 Edge/MKX, 2017 Continental, and 2017 Fusion/MKZ vehicles equipped with a 2.7L or 3.0L gasoline turbocharged direct injection (GTDI) engine and built on 1-Apr-2016 and through 1-Jan-2017 may exhibit white or blue smoke from the exhaust, rough idle in neutral or park at normal operating temperature or after a hot restart. The vehicle may also exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, P0305, P0306 and/or P0316, P0524 and/or P06DD with excessive oil consumption. Oil consumption may be 1 Liter (1 quart) in less than 4,800 km (3,000 miles). Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

T-TT: Vehicles may experience various drivability concerns. Upon diagnosis, technicians commonly find no or low fuel pressure as well as a variety of DTCs (Commonly P1603, P1604, P1605, P0171, P0300, P0302, P0304, U0100). Technicians find that the cause this condition is corrosion and water in the A43 ECM connector (Fig 1). In several cases, it was found that the source of water was from aftermarket windshields with poorly sealed or damaged deicer harnesses (Fig 2). Water enters the deicer harness and is wicked through the engine room main harness, eventually collecting in the ECM connector.

Some 2015-2018 Focus ST vehicles may exhibit MIL On with DTC's P0300 and/or P0316 store in Powertrain Control Module(PCM) memory. Vehicle may also exhibit perceived misfire after cold start until Engine Coolant Temperature(ECT) reaches 49 degrees C (120 degrees F) Install (4) new CYFS-12-YEC spark plugs and set plug gap to 1.0mm(0.040). Use ROTUNDA RTTP tool KDT165 or equivalent to gap and adjust the plugs before installing. For Drivability concerns Refer to Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) manual. Engineering is currently investigating this concern. To assist with the investigation use the Report A Vehicle Concern link at the bottom of the Oasis report and submit a Global Concern Report (GCR). Continue to monitor OASIS for updates.
