Some 2015-2018 Fusion/MKZ/MKC/Escape/Edge vehicles equipped with a 2.0L EcoBoost engine may exhibit a runs rough condition with DTCs P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304 and/or P0316. This may be due to coolant intrusion due to corrosion on the engine block. To diagnose this concern, with the engine at normal operating temperature, pressurize the cooling system to 138 kPa (20 psi) and hold for 5 hours. If the coolant pressure drops 27.57 kPa (4psi), remove the spark plugs and inspect for coolant in the cylinders. If coolant is found in any of the cylinders, replace the engine long block assembly. The vehicle may also exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, P0305, P0306 and/or P0316, P0524 and/or P06DD with excessive oil consumption. T-TT: Vehicles may experience various drivability concerns. Upon diagnosis, technicians commonly find no or low fuel pressure as well as a variety of DTCs (Commonly P1603, P1604, P1605, P0171, P0300, P0302, P0304, U0100). Technicians find that the cause this condition is corrosion and water in the A43 ECM connector (Fig 1). In several cases, it was found that the source of water was from aftermarket windshields with poorly sealed or damaged deicer harnesses (Fig 2). Water enters the deicer harness and is wicked through the engine room main harness, eventually collecting in the ECM connector.
