Concern: Fault P0299 stored in the DME Information: Fault P0299 is stored when the actual boost level deviates from the specified boost level for greater than 3 seconds. Anything that can cause incorrect boost levels will set this fault, such as leaks in the intake/intercooler system, leaks in the boost control system (i.e. vacuum lines to the diverter valves, pressure converter and vacuum reservoir). All possible fault causes outlined in Guided Fault Finding MUST be addressed. If all of the possible causes are ruled out, then program the DME with PIWIS II software version 15.500 or higher. Some diagnostic hints: Check the freeze frame data of the fault. If the fault occurred at: <2500rpm/<60% engine load, this is most likely a software issue >2500rpm/>60% engine load, this is most likely…

TT-15-026 Subject vehicles may exhibit a MIL lamp on with reduced engine power due to a restriction in the exhaust system such as a plugged DPF. The technician may find DTC?s (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) such as P244B, P141F, P226C, and P0299 stored in the engine ECU. If any of these DTC?s are present, it is important to inspect for an exhaust restriction before suspecting an issue with the turbocharger. Codes P0299 (Underboost) and P226C (Slow VNT Response) can set when the exhaust has a restriction. Many turbochargers have been returned to Hino through warranty which test good upon inspection. These turbochargers were replaced during the same repair of a plugged DPF. Turbochargers returned through warranty will now be subject to claim denial if they were incorrectly condemned upon the…

Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 21 number 14-21 dated November 26, 2014. The MIL is on. Customer may report a reduction in power. DTC P029900 (Turbo/Super Charger Underboost) is stored in the engine control module (ECM), J623 (address word 01). The circlip connecting the turbo wastegate actuator rod and the wastegate flap lever can fall off due to low tension of the clip. Consequently, the wastegate linkage becomes disconnected, causing MIL on and DTC P029900.
