Some 2024-2025 Ranger vehicles may exhibit a "Check Charging System" message displayed in the instrument panel cluster (IPC) with diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) U012D, U0284, and/or U042E stored in the powertrain control module (PCM). This may be due to corrosion found in the active grille shutter lower connector (C1767). If no corrosion is found in this connector, refer to the Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 414-00 for normal diagnostics. If corrosion is found, replace the connector and active grille shutter (AGS) actuator (base part number: 10884). To aid in engineering investigation, when removing the corroded connector cut the wires about 3 inches (76 mm) from the connector to ensure adequate wire is left for analysis. If the corrosion condition is encountered, use the "Submit Global…

Some 2022 Maverick vehicles built on or before 4-Apr-2022 equipped with 2.0L engine may exhibit a charging system warning indicator with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) U012D, U0284 and/or U042E stored in the powertrain control module (PCM). The vehicle may also exhibit a malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with DTCs P0036:00 and/or P0138:00 stored in the PCM. This may be caused by water intrusion in the connector C1050. Prior to performing Workshop Manual (WSM) diagnostics, inspect the male and/or female connector C1050 for signs of corrosion or water intrusion. If water or corrosion is found, replace the male and/or female connector C1050 with a pigtail kit and apply electrical grease.

Some 2021-2022 F-150 vehicles equipped with a 2.7L EcoBoost engine may experience a Check Charging System message displayed in the instrument panel cluster (IPC). The following diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) may also be stored in the powertrain control module (PCM): U012D, U042E, U0284, U0285, and/or U0645. This may be due to local interconnect network (LIN) circuit VE181 (WH-GN), near connector C102A, being shorted to ground near the left engine mount bracket. If this wire is found to be shorted, repair as need per Wiring Diagram, Cell 005 and secure the harness assembly away from the engine mount bracket to prevent a recurrence.

Some 2021 Bronco Sport equipped with a 1.5L EcoBoost engine built on or before 26-Jan-2021 may exhibit a Check Charging System message and/or illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) U012D, U0284 and/or U042E. This may be caused by water intrusion into connector C202. Prior to performing Workshop Manual (WSM) diagnostics, inspect the C202 connector for signs of corrosion or water residue. If water or corrosion is found, replace the C202 male side connector with pigtail kit (service part number 7U2Z-14S411-KB). To have access to C202 connector, remove the left front wheel splash shield and powertrain control module (PCM) bracket.
