What Is VVT (Variable Valve Timing)?

A system that adjusts the timing of intake and/or exhaust valve events to optimize engine performance across different RPM ranges.

VVT systems use oil-pressure-controlled actuators to advance or retard camshaft timing relative to the crankshaft. This improves low-end torque, high-RPM power, fuel economy, and reduces emissions. Common implementations include Toyota VVT-i, Honda VTEC, BMW VANOS, and Ford Ti-VCT. Related codes include P0010-P0024.
